One of the only external necessities in Pilates is a mat. Since Pilates is meant for rehabilitation as well as strengthening and extending flexibility there is a large case to be made for one clinic Pilates mat. Over the years the mat has become a staple of the exercise routine. From the beginning individuals needed a surface on which they would not slip but was slightly more padded that the hard floor on which they practiced. For this reason, rubber became the natural choice for a mat.

Over the years the mats have changed significantly from the typical rubber materials that they stemmed from to two-sided eco-friendly and biodegradable alternatives.
A clinic Pilates mat will commonly come in a variety of colors that can accessorize you outfit and accommodate your existing mat tote. The colors change with the material in question. Some purely natural mats can come in shades of brown and green because of the composite materials, but other mats like travel mats, generally one-sixteenth of an inch thick, can be dyed into virtually any color of the rainbow by the manufacturer with little to no effort.

The size is also a consideration when contemplating which mat to invest in, as is the cost which can exceed $ 50 for the more exotic or natural mats. The density of the mat is fairly uniform, but depending on the application you may want up until 10 mm thick, which will also factor into the cost of the mat.
