Pilates Floor Mat

Over the years there have been many additions and renovations to the pilates exercise routine.  One of the newest renovations introduces a type of pilates that is performed on the floor with a pilates floor mat.  Mat pilates is extremely popular for individuals wishing to practice their pilates from home as traditional pilates requires the use of many large pieces of equipments.  Mat pilates requires only that individuals have a structured pilates mat to perform upon and users are urged to purchase a pilates home workout DVD to teach them the multiple exercises of mat pilates.  These exercises require that individuals stand, sit, lay and even kneel upon the mat to achieve proper work out technique.

A pilates floor mat helps insure that individuals remain safe during their work out routine.  When performing mat pilates without a proper mat all of the energy exerted from the body while exercise is not absorbed by the ground.  This means the energy is shocked back into the body which can create strain or damage to muscles and tendons in the area that has the most contact with the floor.  A pilates mat is designed to absorb the energy exerted from the body so that the body is not damaged during a pilates workout routine.  In addition a pilates mat serves to cushion the body as exercise routines are carried out.  Many exercises require the individual to exert force onto the ground.  Without proper cushioning this force can create bruising and internal damage to the body.  The right mat will cushion your body from strain that can be caused by exercising on the ground.

There are many types of pilates mats available for purchase online or even at local specialty stores.  The most popular type of mat is the foam pilates floor mat that is made from PVC.  These mats come in an array of different thicknesses and colors so that every individual can find the right mat for them.  In addition foam mats provide support for exercises that require balance and strength.  Another type of mat is made from rubber.  Rubber mats are also durable however they are more expensive then foam mats.  They also offer a great deal of support and cushioning.
