of Pilates Machines.
Traditional pilates incorporates the use of a series of pilates machines that are designed to stretch and tone your muscles. Many large pieces of pilates equipment are still used today in pilates gyms around the world. While they are not available commonly for home workouts they do help increase your work out potential. All of the large pilates equipment incorporate a series of elastics and springs to create a resistance for users as they work out. All the different machines create a total pilates body work out that helps with core, arm, leg, chest and mind strength.
The reformer is the most popular piece of equipment used out of all of the many pilates machines. It looks much like a bench with a gliding seat that allows you to stretch and tone your muscles! Exercises on the reformer can be done while standing, sitting and even laying depending on the needs of the individual. The seat is moved by pushing and pulling multiple elastic resistance bands that are placed at either end of the machine. There are many levels of resistance that can be used on the reformer to incorporate the level of difficulty the individual can sustain.
Another popular piece of pilates equipment is the trapeze table which. These pilates machines are very cage-like in appearance and contain a number of bars, springs and straps that can be used for multiple types of exercise. To learn these multiple exercises it is recommended that individuals take a trapeze class. A class will teach you the proper way to perform a number of different exercises; helping to prevent injury or sprain.
The last of the popular pilates machines is the wunda chair that resembles a spring loaded box. On one side of the box is a maneuverable plank that can be pushed in and many different angles. One traditionally sits on the box and uses their leg muscles to push in the maneuverable plank. Another method of use requires the box to be placed against a wall and the user to sit in front of the chair with their legs extended. They can then push the plank into the box using their feet; a great way to strengthen calves and thighs.
