Now that mat pilates has been established as one of the most popular forms of pilates many new pieces of equipment are being designed for this form of pilates. Mat pilates became popular because it didn’t require extensive pieces of equipment making it easy to perform from the comfort of home. However new pieces of equipment have been developed that allow individuals to incorporate harder workouts into their home mat pilates routines. One of the newest renovations to pilates equipment are pilates mat spring pulleys that can be attached to the top and bottom of a specialized mat. These pulleys provide resistance for the individual as they attempt to stretch and tone their leg and arm muscles.
Pilates mat spring pulleys require the use of a specialized mat that can be temporarily attached to the floor of your home. Many of these mats come equip with velcro for carpeted homes and suction cups for hardwood floors. These devices allow the mat to become temporarily immobile so that the pulleys can work correctly. The spring pulleys can then be attached to the top, bottom or side edges of the pilates mat. The spring pulleys come in a variety of different strength setting so the individual can choose how much resistance they need. Spring pulleys can then be held in hands or placed over feet as they are lifted off of the carpet. The spring pulleys provide enough resistance to strengthen and tone muscles as this action is performed. There are many common exercises that can be performed using pilates mat spring pulleys. Leg, arm and even abdominal exercises are extremely popular. For legs the pulley latches can be placed around the feet or ankles. The individual can then begin to lift their legs off of the ground slowly; as high as possible. The spring resistance should make this rather difficult; however it is extremely beneficial for your leg muscles. The same concept can be done using your arms instead of your legs to achieve stronger arm muscles. Additionally you can place spring pulleys on the side of your mat and grasp them with your arms bringing them upwards towards the center of your body to build muscle.
