Pilates reformers

Pilates reformers are customized workout machines that are meant to stretch certain tendons while increasing flexibility and strength. Generally the reformer lays down on the floor and they’re a common item in Pilates studios around the world. Like Pilates, the reformer works to use the body’s weight in accord with gravity to force certain muscle groups to compensate for the excess weight. Since there are no weights required this is generally considered a very safe mode of working out. In order to increase the intensity of the workout different resistance springs, coils, or ropes are used. The Pilates reformed is versatile because there are different areas where the body can leverage against itself. Generally the sliding panel that you sit on has tension coils around the bottom. When tightened the coils provide resistance for all of the motion that you are doing.

There are various loops on bars that run vertically and horizontally from the base of Pilates reformers. These loops are provided at different angles to test certain muscle groups when you pull against them while sitting on the reformer. Generally the reformer also has some shoulder guards that you can push against with your shoulder and then have a bar that you push on with your feet. Both the shoulder pads and the bar are padded for comfort, and are adjustable to different heights. However, since it is so variable and must be reusable for some time, these are generally expensive machines. Cheaper and often knockoffs are available that cut some corners, but a studio reformer will start at a couple thousand dollars.
