Yoga DVDs are similar to other work out videos, but usually have a different tempo and focus. In yoga the mastery lies not within strengthening, although that is often times a byproduct, but with the harmonization of the body. With this goal in mind different breathing and contracting and loosening exercises are made to be sure that ample breath is reaching all of the core muscle areas and that flexibility is always being stretch and pushed. In each exercise for the DVDs there is an instructor which maps out the timing and the position that is being done. A great DVD set will also include the most commonly made mistakes and the points of fine tuning that differentiate between a novice and a veteran. The small things are critical because of the discipline and focus that is required to do some of the more complicated yoga positions.
The yoga DVDs are generally scaled into the different difficulty levels as beginner, intermediate, and difficult. The videos are broken down so that some of the more extreme stretches are saved for those with the proper amount of strength, balance, and flexibility so that you do not injure yourself. Daily podcasts or video blasts are available throughout the internet depending on the credibility and public outreach of the publishing source. The instructor will generally walk you through the positions and how to attain them as well as list some alternatives to the more difficult positions so that you can build your way to them .
